How much does a new window cost? It’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves at some point. The cost of new windows is never in doubt, but the price depends on so many things. The size of the window, the type of glass you choose, the materials used in construction and the vista through the window are all factors

In this article, we’re going to take a detailed look at the costs of windows, particularly new windows, so you can see how much money you’ll save by investing.

How much will a window cost?

Where you live can also make a big difference to the cost of a window. It’s not just the expense of the windows themselves, but also fitting them and the initial preparation work needed to get them installed.

The national average cost of a standard double glazed, single glazed and wooden frame window is currently around £2,640

(source: HD Futureglass): double glazed window (34cm wide by 60cm tall) £2,640

single glazed window (35cm wide by 60cm tall) £2,350

What size of window to buy?

The sizes of windows range from around 22cm to 50cm by 20cm (80 inches to 210 inches), with single glazed windows available in sizes from around 1.5 metres to 6 metres (60 inches to 160 inches) and double-glazed windows available from 2.5 metres to 3.5 metres (90 inches to 240 inches). Most new windows come in a single glazed form.

What is the difference between double-glazing and triple-glazing?

There are a number of windows that come in different versions of double-glazed and triple-glazed windows.

Simply put, double-glazing can be used for a single pane of glass, with two different insulating methods. ‘Double-glazing’ is a clear, basic version of this technology, which works at only one layer of glass. It’s not a good option if you have a double-glazed window, as it can only stop one side of the air being let into the room.

‘Triple-glazing’ works at a triple layer of glass and has been around for a long time. It works best for double-glazing, and is the most expensive option.

Double glazing and triple-glazing cost, and how to choose the best windows While double-glazing is more common, there are a number of window types to choose from.
